Are you planning your dream wedding in Devon? Look no further.
Devon has an fantastic variety of wedding venues from woodland ceremonies, beach weddings, orchards, marquees, tipis and stunning manor houses to take over for a day or for a whole weekend party.
I have compiled a list of 30+ stunning venues, photographer recommended, to help you narrow it down. The good news is I have photographed weddings at all of them, explored, and got to know all the best places for photographs.
Personally I love the venues that are flexible, that are a bit different and have options to personalise things and celebrate your wedding in your own unique way.

Rustic Country houses with a difference
One of my favourites and very close to where I live on the edge of Dartmoor. I have photographed lots of weddings here and each has been completely different, more so than other venues, as there are so many options. Big country house, options for ceremony, outside in stunning gardens, inside, area for dining inside or have a marquee in front or back garden, or stretch tent or big top, have your own bar inside and stay in the many rooms and cottage on site. Lake for boating and lots of camping space. Always feels very relaxed. The rooms are not as fancy as some venues but I highly recommend this Devon wedding venue.
Gorgeous grounds and woodland on the beautiful river Dart, inside or outside ceremony, big house can accommodate lots of people. You can use it for the lovely house and exceptional grounds for photos and a wander, but it would also be a great place for a family orientated wedding where there are lots of kids as guests due to being within River Dart Country Park which has fantastic camping, walking trails and great for kids. Swim, paddleboard or kayak or do the obstacle course over the river or swim out to the pirate ship in summer. My kids love the slides, the fort, climbing nets, obstacle courses and the bike pump track. You can even organise to do the High ropes.
Outsdoorsy Wedding Venues with Barns
Lovely family run farm and south devon wedding venue with a huge barn for you to decorate as you wish and a quirky rustic open barn for drinks reception, covered areas and places for firepits. Some holiday cottage type accommodation for the couple and family and lots of glamping, not far from the sea, with farm animals in the fields. Some amazing coastal walks from here where you can hike to beaches from in both directions. The photo shows the drinks barn. A great Devon venue for a super relaxed wedding.
I really like this venue and as a bonus the owners are lovely. It’s a huge converted barn with gorgeous rustic wood cladding on the inside. When you hire it you get the whole place with 7 acres so you can have guests camping or glamping. There’s even a cool getting ready room for them. You can get married inside the big barn or in the field with stunning views overlooking the sea. There’s nice cottage accommodation if camping on your wedding night is not your thing! The best bit for me is that its a short walk from one of my favourite beaches, South Milton Sands, where you can hire paddleboards and paddle out to the natural arch, snorkel, swim or do some rockpooling. Or have a pre wedding meal at the highly recommended Beach Cafe with amazing sunset views.
(See Blog) One of my new Devon faves. It’s a very relaxed venue comprised of beautiful courtyard of barns with gorgeous foliage and stunning views over the countryside and a and long driveway, so you really feel like you are getting away from it all. You can get married in the lovely rustic roundhouse barn or in the orchard with the views. You can set up your own bar in the courtyard corner bar with no corkage if you have thirsty guests. They also have a lovely traditional marquee in the field for larger weddings and a nice grassy area around it for lawn games or hanging out. There is also some very nicely done accommodation, 4 suites, and some good undercover areas around the courtyard.
It’s really such a gorgeous setting in a beautiful hidden valley, with picture postcard 16th century farmhouse and converted barn type accommodations with lovely owners to boot. It’s great if you want to have a Devon woodland wedding, the walk through the woods is stunning. There is also a rustic cider barn for your ceremony or evening revelry or you can have a marquee option, and fields and meadow area to hang out with all of your guests. Theres a courtyard patio, play area, outdoor pool and hot tub with great views and lots of options for walks. I can highly recommend Middle Coombe as a great Devon wedding venue.
Another of my favourite relaxed Devon wedding venues. It’s a rustic farmyard venue with a large barn to decorate as you please and an attached, covered bar area. It’s a great place for an outdoor wedding ceremony on hay bales overlooking the charming countryside. The courtyard has place for guests to mingle, a tractor and firepit area to sit around in the evening. I like the sunset view from the fields with long grass and relaxed vibe. The family running it are lovely. There is a small amount of attractive accommodation on site, a cottage and cute bridal sweet and a beautiful tree lined driveway.
A very rustic, lime plastered, agricultural barn, not far from Exeter, with lots of character and relaxed vibe to do what you want or let them organise it all for you, it’s your choice. It’s another great venue for a Devon woodland wedding, with fields, an orchard and camping. There’s a kitchen/bar area at the back of the main barn space but there are no other buildings or accommodation here. You can arrange a fireworks display with the host. A great venue for a relaxed Devon wedding.
A big country house estate for relaxed weddings with accommodation and lots of grounds and no curfew. It’s a great pick if you want to have a big group of family or friend in the main house with you for a whole weekend celebration. You could have your ceremony in the quaint little barn next to the main house, or in one of the other eleven licensed areas including an old stone chapel, a walled courtyard, or beneath the oak tree overlooking the lakes and wild flower meadow. Theres a very a large modern barn for reception or you could put up a marquee. I like the courtyard garden in front of the main house, nice for a drinks reception or some photos and there is a small lake too. Also check out their other venue, Arches Beach, right on Coombe Martin beach.
A little known about North Devon wedding venue. If you want to get married under a huge ancient oak tree with views over the countryside, this is a great place. There is a large flat area for a marquee and a games barn for reception drinks etc. There is a row of cottage accommodation and fields for camping and parking and a pond and attractive garden area with views. It’s a short drive to Dunkery Beacon on Exmoor.
Upmarket Country Estates/Barns/Farms/Castles
I also really love Kingston if you want somewhere really special. Within the extensive grounds is the luxury Georgian manor house with elegant rooms and cottages and beautiful modern barn conversion accommodation with hot tubs. There are stunning gardens and an ancient tree lined driveway. The big converted barn for eating in has lovely views over the gardens and landscape, and the new covered courtyard garden with cool bar area makes it an awesome venue even in bad weather. Theres a smaller more rustic barn for indoor ceremonies, and the huge yurt is a fantastic choice if you want to have a gathering the night before and make a whole weekend of it. As it’s very local to me so I have shot quite a few weddings here in all weathers. A great feature is the unique ‘Undercroft’ vaulted party cellar with a bar under the main house if you are party people and want to get some DJ’s in for the evening. Kingston is a great choice.
The very grand renovated historical barn, with dramatic lighting, is stunning for both your ceremony, wedding breakfast and party. The smaller and lighter west barn across the courtyard is a great addition to have coffees or drinks or even speeches in while the main room is cleared and is a great wet weather option. Weddings here have exclusive use for the whole weekend so that you can relax. It’s situated in the Teign Valley of Dartmoor and is great in summer or winter. The team are very experienced with attentive owners, and the food is always top notch. I love the very pretty gardens for a drinks reception and photos, especially the beautiful red virginia creeper covered walls. Beautiful and modern well-presented accommodation in the cottages and main house whilst retaining its traditional charm. The courtyard is great for firepits, festoon lights and evening food.
Five star luxury castle Devon wedding venue, with the choice of three indoor ceremony spaces or a gorgeous summer house outdoor ceremony among the gardens. The grounds and views are spectacular and there are lots of activities you can organise like golf, and falconry. I really like the indoor pool and spa and the terrace balcony area with stunning views of Dartmoor National Park. There are lots of rooms so your guests could all be in one place, and there are even some lodges too. It’s also a great place for a smaller wedding where you can treat yourselves to a really special stay and in a short drive you can be out on the tors of Dartmoor for some spectacular walks and photos.
A very impressive Georgian country house estate within its own deer filled parkland not far from Cullompton in Devon. A beautiful grand driveway and various spaces to celebrate your day in including the lovely orangery. The house has an amazing oval hallway and other reception rooms. Accommodation options in the main house and nicely done surrounding Old Stables and other buildings. There’s also a cute chapel within the grounds and an attractive larger church in the village very nearby. Its a lovely place for a wander round the grounds, especially just before sunset.
Dartington Estate has some of the most stunning medieval buildings and grounds you will ever see, where you could have a banquet fit for a king. They don’t do many weddings here as the estate is used for many other events and retreats. The main 14th century hall is spectacular and very spacious and from it you can access a private garden and the bar area. There is also a ceremony room above the courtyard and options for an outdoor ceremony. Lots of accommodation can be found around the courtyard but the highlights for me are the beautifully maintained gardens and grounds of 800 acres! There’s even a barn cinema, restaurants and bars within the grounds, as well as walks, access to the river and deer. Stunning. I can highly recommend the relaxed and local green table restaurant within the grounds.
18th century Italianate villa with stunning views and famous gardens on the banks of the River Dart Valley. There are several options for your ceremony within the house, even on the famous amazing staircase, and the choice of having your ceremony outdoors. Dining spread between three large rooms in the main house or you have the option of hiring a marquee in the gardens. There is accommodation for guests in the main house and coach house, and if you want a church wedding there’s a village church not far away (also a good pub!). The highlight for me is the location and grounds and the beautiful walks along the Dart.
Another big country house near Honiton in Devon, with beautiful interiors and a big Georgian orangery perfect for a large wedding celebration. It overlooks beautiful gardens and there is a the walled garden with flowers and where they grow their own veg and a cute love seat and duck pond. There is a double swing seat at the edge of the formal garden and woodland and the coolest treehouse self contained accommodation if you are looking for something unique. I especially like the outdoor ceremony location with thatched summer house and wisteria tunnel.
A very photogenic estate with an elegant Georgian manor house in a lovely location in the South Hams . Unlike some of the other large estate venues, access to the main house is limited, but there is a a big mughal marquee for your celebrations set within the gardens. There is also barn and shepherd hut accommodation for guests and I really like the manicured walled gardens with option for an outdoor ceremony. Be aware of sound limits in the evening if you are having a band or DJs.
A tudor-style luxury hotel with award winning restaurant and chefs, a great choice for foodies. I like the traditional interiors especially of the public spaces like the restaurant and bar overlooking the gardens and the exceptional rooms with spa suites and an extensive wine cellar. There are huge and beautiful grounds and gardens and it’s set within the heart of Dartmoor National Park, near the quaint town of Chagford. Lots to do including many interesting walks from here, or fishing, golf and tennis courts. You can arrange exclusive use for to 50 wedding guests.
With stunning views over the Exe estuary views this 600 year old castle with it’s amazing interior is like no other. Unique grand ballroom, dining room and library and a majectic staircase. I really like the rose garden for a champagne reception and the entrance and driveway with views of the deer in the fields. There’s a large rustic barn option now if you prefer that vibe, or the Belvedere tower and garden with an option for a marquee. There’s also a gorgeous village church nearby if you are looking for a church ceremony.
Other Awesome Devon Wedding Venues
A very popular country house mansion with a cool billiards room, bar and main ball room for your celebration and party. The dining room indoors is great for a light and bright indoor ceremony with the pavillion and gardens outside as an alternative. They are very experienced in weddings and well run whilst remaining unique. The food is always fantastic and the staff and service excellent. In the house I also like the elegant suite for getting ready and the guests have space to mingle and relax throughout the house. I really love the meadows out to the front of the manor house with sunset views and endless photo opportunities. There’s a grand treelined driveway and entrance with woods and beautiful gardens, with a fountain, to wander in.
Wedding receptions in the lovely estate within the Blackdown Hill s area of outstanding beauty, take place in the permanent marquee or out in the beautiful gardens and pagoda. The grounds are lovely and arboretum gardens, magnificent trees and parkland just stunning. There’s a terrace area with views around the marquee, a croquet lawn and steps going down to a sunken garden with a fountain. You can organise glamping and I love the woodland, huge swing and little nooks and crannies for gorgeous photos. Another highly recommended Devon wedding venue.
Another great venue with lots of variety within one place. I love this venue. There is main oak beamed cider barn, perfect for your ceremony and dancing later as well as a huge modern, beautifully done stable barn with high ceiling and glazed section for feasting in. For gathering there is the bar area with glass end looking out over the walled garden which is perfect for reception drinks, group photos and hanging out in the evening. You can also choose to have your ceremony outside here in the oak framed arbour. I love the lake and gardens, and the modern, luxurious getting ready space called the tack room and paddock and new accommodation pods. Or wander out into the fields to enjoy the views of sunset.
A Devon wedding venue set in rural countryside not far from Cullompton. The Corn barn is a 17th century renovated cob main barn with vaulted ceilings and oak beams around a sheltered courtyard with flat grassy area for lawn games. The orchard, with a little barn, is stunning and a perfect place for an outdoor ceremony. There’s also a bar area, kitchens and an annexe room for getting ready.
With it’s gorgeous manicured gardens and amazing cathedral-like interior I can see why Buckfast Abbey is a lovely choice for a wedding. I don’t think they do many weddings here though as you probably have to have a pretty strong local connection. There are some function rooms and a restaurant and the local cottage accommodation around it within walking distance is also good. The reception and party rooms are more modern and lack the grandeur of some of the other venues, but the gardens and Abbey itself make up for it.
A unique coastal wedding venue, stunning panoramic views out to sea of the North Devon coast and backed by Exmoor. One of it’s best features is a spectacular glazed platform to have a drink on or a few photos. You can get married outside by the gazebo and platform with all your guests having views of the sea or there’s an indoor option also with stunning views. There’s a large modern function space with a bar for your celebration with a balcony around it and the same awesome views, gardens and the option to book guests into the large hotel behind. You can book the hotel for exclusive use in winter months and you get discounts on the rooms all year round. It’s a quick drive down to one of the beaches for photos.
A modern castle in a stunning location on top of a hill with views all around. You can have a ceremony in the tower of the castle and reception drinks in the foyer or outside. It’s not far from Exeter and is surrounded by great walks and woodland.
Sadly, it looks like they have stopped hosting wedding ceremonies from 2022, maybe that will change? Keep an eye on their website before you consider it for your Devon wedding venue.
Some other Devon wedding venues you may want to have a look at include: Froginwell Vineyard; The Brick House Vineyard; Tunnels Beaches; Hayne; Higher Eggbeer Farm; The Oak Barn, Hittisleigh; Pynes House; Lewtrenchard Manor; Hotel Endsleigh; and Glazebrook House.
Devon Registry Offices
A lovely house and two room options for an indoor ceremony and historical grounds for a few photos after. Why not head off to a venue nearby for a delicious locally produced meal afterwards, like Riverford Field Kitchen, a favourite of mine which I can highly recommend, or thatched charm of The Cott Inn, Dartington or great organic food and stylish rooms at The Bull Inn, Totnes.
Old Forde House in Newton Abbot is a 16th century manor house and Teignbridge Registry Office with attractive frontage and garden. There are different size ceremony rooms depending on the size of your group and the option to have a few photos outside the front of the house in the nice grounds and garden afterwards.
Indoor only venue, not as grand or historical as the other Devon Registry Offices, it’s a less inspiring modern building. But it’s about the two of you and the people that are there with you who make your wedding special. There is a small outdoor space for a quick gathering and a few photos afterwards. Maybe you have a big party planned for afterwards in a marquee or village hall? Or maybe you just need to do the formalities with just the two of you and your witnesses before planning something a bit different out in the wilderness.
